Nanny cams…the term makes parents and caregivers alike think of horrible nannies that abuse or neglect children. Thanks to the media, this stereotype has only been accentuated over the past several years.

While it is true there are ‘bad’ nannies out there, a nanny cam should be viewed by parents and nanny as a security measure – much like locking the door, or setting your home alarm system. A nanny cam can be used by parents and nanny alike - if you have multiple children and they fight and one gets hurt and you will of course receive conflicting stories on what happened- a nanny cam can solve the issue. On the flip side, you can use a nanny cam to ease your mind - if you come home and find the baby has a bruise and the nanny says its because the baby fell off the couch - its easy to view the tape and see for yourself.
Continue reading "Nanny Cams are not just for ‘Bad Nannies’"

Having a nanny is more than having a fulltime babysitter. Essentially, nannies become an integral part of our lives and family! Our nannies provide care for our children when they are sick and hurt, and allow us to have freedom in our careers! This close relationship needs to be based around the children, and their well being and safety.

As a parent, you need to think of things you can do to help your nanny be prepared in case of an emergency or accident, and find ways to work together in the best interest of the child.
Continue reading "Nannies, Parents, Communication and Technology"

As parents we all worry about our children's health, happiness and future well-being, and hiring a nanny involves placing a lot of trust in them. Children are fragile, they need some freedom to make their own mistakes but they also need guidance and protection from things that could harm them.

One of a nanny's main duties is looking after your children, they are their caregiver when you're not able to look after them yourself. Here are the top ten things a nanny shouldn't do, and if you notice any of these, a polite chat with nanny might be in order.
Continue reading "The Top 10 Reasons Why You and Nanny Need To Talk."

Before you even place your ad for a nanny, you need to carefully consider what you expect of her. A nanny’s primary responsibility should be to take care of the children, not to clean your house. However, duties among nannies vary widely. Whatever it is you decide to expect, whether childcare only duties, or additional duties, you need to have these detailed before you start interviewing.

Many nannies do not mind doing light housekeeping, but there are ones that do! If you expect additional duties to be performed, you should be willing to pay more, as well. Keep in mind that the additional duties a nanny can perform while watching only one child are much different than when watching multiple children!
Continue reading "A Nanny’s Duties; A Guide for Parents"

If you are preparing to hire a nanny for your children, you should be prepared to do a background check on her and familiarize yourself with various types of background checks!

Background Checks are becoming common in the world today. Background and criminal background checks are no longer only a professional need. We need criminal background checks to gauge their new babysitter or nanny, home cleaners, business partners, or even tenants.
Continue reading "Hiring a Nanny: What you need to know about Performing a Criminal Background Check"

With the uncertainty of child day care centers, many working parents are opting to hire a nanny. Not only can she take care of the children, her duties may also include household cleaning and sometimes even preparing dinner!

It is a parents responsibility to have due diligence before bringing a stranger into their homes to watch over their children. You should always perform a nanny background check as well as interview their previous clients.
Continue reading "What you need to know about Free Criminal Background Checks When Hiring a Nanny"

The importance of running a nanny background check can not be overstated, children need to be protected, the consequences of not doing so are just too unbearable to imagine.

In 2005, a California court sentenced a nanny named Jimena Barreto to life in prison after she was convicted of murder in the hit-and-run deaths of 2 children. Before being hired as a nanny, she had 4 convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol, a suspended driver's license and a fake insurance card.

Stories like this one are why performing a background check on your potential nanny is so vitally important!
Continue reading "The Importance of Running a Background Check on your Nanny"
